Project Description
Capturing Sea Views
This is a site where the sun and view direction combine to set the stage for great living rooms. My response was to design a home facing out at angles to the side boundaries so that more rooms can capture the sea and island views. The stepping and angling culminates in the north-facing living rooms, which feature four consecutive walls of sliding glass joinery opening onto an entertaining deck with opening louvered roof above.
This modern home utilises honed concrete block, weatherboard, plastered solid concrete and plastered brick veneer wall claddings.
The fall of the site required the stairs and steps, planters and retaining walls, be designed to minimise the presence of obstructions and vertical barriers. The swimming pool for example is sited to ensure that sea views from the dwelling’s lower level are not affected by the pool fence.
