Project Description
Rustic Gables
Set on a spacious Whitford property overlooking the Mangemangeroa estuary, this home combines the rustic charm of the rural surrounding with the warmth and comforts of a modern home. The design was driven by employing a pavilion style, to help divide the spatial organisation, and the use of a steep roof pitch, which offered numerous space volume opportunities.
Three pavilions are collected around a courtyard driveway emphasising the central axis of the layout from the property entry to the view. The heart of the home, the central pavilion, accommodates the open plan living space. Opposing gabled portals on this pavilion direct towards the entry and define the outdoor living space. The main living space features a volume ceiling with exposed timber trusses, along with stone fireplace surround and divider wall offering rustic textures internally.
A master suite pavilion is flanked on one side of the living, oriented towards the view and showcasing a raking ceiling. The final pavilion sits on the opposing side of the living and contains the remainder of the private spaces – secondary bedrooms, media room, garaging, laundry. In this pavilion a bedroom and media room have been designed in the roof space with coved ceilings down to side walls.
