Project Description
The prairie on Tau
A narrow site orientated parallel to the street offered the unique opportunity for a long front façade. The design response explored a primary two storey form with a garage wing extending off one side and outdoor covered living on the other.
Based around a central entry foyer and portico, the two storey form plays heavily on symmetry – this is further emphasised by the looped driveway. Schist columns are employed as a mass element, anchoring the entry, portico and alfresco. Raised lower level forms in combination with corner joinery project off the front corners, helping to reinforce the symmetry and layer the front façade. Lower pitched roof forms sit atop the home, accenting the length of the form.
A double height entry foyer provides connections to all parts of the home. Primary living spaces occupy the lower level oriented towards the outdoor living space with a formal lounge on the opposing side of the entry. Guest bedrooms fill out the lower part of the two storey form, with triple garaging and a rumpus extending off to one side. Master and secondary bedroom suites are accommodated on the upper level along with a separate living space, offering private spaces for retreat and relaxation.
